Homecoming School Spirit Week
A big thank-you to all of our students and families for participating in Homecoming School Spirit Week this past week! We loved seeing everyone show their Lawrence pride and school spirit each day, from dressing to impress for picture day and wearing tie dye to shining bright in neon and sparkles, sporting team jerseys, and proudly wearing our Lawrence school colors. Your enthusiasm helped make the week so much fun!

Learning in Ms. Arleo’s Class
Ms. Arleo’s class had fun learning with Ten Apples Up on Top! Students practiced counting and number recognition while engaging in math talk using vocabulary such as smaller, larger, more, and less. The class is also building strong writing habits as they learn how to write complete sentences in first grade. Students are practicing starting with a capital letter, using finger spaces between words, and ending with proper punctuation. Their journal writing included sentences such as, “Today is Wednesday. We will go to music.”

Book Choice in First Grade
Dr. Vanraalte visited our first grade classrooms to support students as they selected an interest book or book of their choice. Students explored books across a variety of genres and were encouraged to think about their own interests when making their selections. We are excited to continue fostering a love of reading and helping students discover books they enjoy!

A Sweet Fall Activity
Ms. Simpson’s class studied apples this week! Ms. Simpson’s class enjoyed a fun fall taste-testing activity with apples, caramel, and a variety of toppings! Students used their senses as they explored the different tastes, textures, and combinations. It was a fun and delicious way to celebrate the fall season! Students also explored different colors of apples and created apple prints using green, yellow, and red paint. These hands-on activities were a fun way to learn about apples while celebrating the start of fall.

Thank You, PTA!
A special thank-you to our wonderful PTA for helping with our courtyard! They did a beautiful job planting and preparing the area ahead of our upcoming pumpkin patch. We appreciate all they do to help make our school welcoming and inviting for our students!

Grade 2 Celebrates Gandhi Day
On October 2, our second grade classes participated in a countywide Gandhi Day initiative focused on the values of peace, kindness, empathy, respect, and positive action. Lawrence joined 37 Nassau County school districts in encouraging students to discover how even small acts of kindness, compassion, and respect can create meaningful change in their classrooms, communities, and world.
Students participated in a read-aloud and reflected on the question, “How can I be the change I wish to see in the world?” They wrote their ideas on Post-it notes and added them to a class poster—after a little reflection, of course! Students also received an inspirational bookmark to color and take home as a reminder that their everyday actions can make a difference.
