On Friday, September 11, we came together to recognize Patriot Day and honor the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. We were privileged to remember and honor the men and women who lost their lives on that tragic day, as well as the families who lost loved ones and the many heroes who showed extraordinary courage and compassion. Dr. Panzarella opened our ceremony with thoughtful remarks about the importance of kindness and lending a helping hand to others. She reminded our students to think about the final two words they recite each morning during our announcements: BE KIND!
Our District Music Director, Pam Gallopini, along with our wonderful music teachers, Ms. Frank and Ms. Baquiran, led our students in “You’re a Grand Ole Flag.” Each student proudly held a small American flag and stood quietly and respectfully throughout the ceremony. We were honored to have Superintendent Dr. Pedersen join us to carefully fold the old flag and raise a new flag in remembrance of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. As the new flag was raised, Ms. Frank beautifully played “Taps” on the piano, creating a moving moment for our school community. As we marked 25 years since that day, our students demonstrated the respect, pride, kindness, and compassion that make our school community so special.
Our students also reflected on the meaning of heroes through meaningful classroom work. Ms. Arleo’s class created “Heroes Have a Heart” pieces, with students sharing their thoughts about who a hero is, what a hero is, what heroes can do, and what heroes have.
Students in Ms. Arleo's class also created ribbons to help “Never Forget” Patriot Day. Their thoughtful work was a beautiful reminder that heroes can be found in the people who show kindness, courage, compassion, and a willingness to lend a helping hand.
