The Social Studies department at Lawrence Middle School is dedicated to bringing the past to life by highlighting the lessons that history has taught human beings. Each grade is focused on a specific topic and era; however, all Social Studies classes are driven with the purpose to enhance students ability to understand the past through the reading of artifacts, documents, maps, photos, etc. in a a way to extract information with the ability to comprehend differing cultural perspectives.
Below, please find the areas of focus for each grade:
6th grade: Global History-Themes of Geography, First Humans through the Neolithic Revolutions, Early River Valley Civilizations, World Religions, and Ancient Civilizations
7th grade: American History- Native Americans through the American Civil War
8th grade: American History- Reconstruction after the Civil War through Modern Times/Current Events
